Peer Health Club

The Peer Health Club of Saint Augustine’s Senior Secondary School has come a long way in it’s strive to achieve academic excellence amongst Peer students. The Saints Peer health Club is actually not only a peer health club but also the science club in the school. About a couple of years ago (2008), the science club and the peer health were amalgamated since their aims and objectives were similar and they therefore had about the same members.

The main aim and objective of the club is:
To learn and teach health and health-related issues by means which include; Presentation and Drama on assembly grounds, Workshop organized by either N.S.G.A. or by the club itself. We do also involve in community outreach programmes and etc.

Peer Health has lots of activities such as the above mentioned and also set-settals and fund-raising since every association needs funds. Their   activities are not only centered within the school but like the community outreach programme, the club embarks on sensitization activities outside of the school and most of these are usually in other schools like The Gambia Muslim Senior Secondary School, Saint Joseph’s Secondary School, Gambia Senior Secondary School, etc.

So technically, the Peer Health is not just peer health but both Peer Health and Science. The only reason Peer Health, as name continued, was mainly because of the club’s international relations, one of which is the Nova-Scotia Gambia Association (N.S.G.A).

Talking of which, The N.S.G.A. is the body in charge of all Peer Health Clubs in this Country. They organize workshops for Peer Health Clubs throughout The Gambia in their respective schools at times; they organize symposiums in which different schools are invited. Peer Health workshops are always remarkable. Participants receive Health Education, Healthy food and are paid Healthy Allowances. But these workshops are strictly for active Peer Health members
